Bshs 401

Bshs401 - Every year, more children are needlessly suffering from child abuse. This epidemic is hidden and not discussed often enough. “Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving 6 million children; that’s because reports can include multiple children” (US Department of Health and Human Services). Children are terrified to come forward for reasons varying from a fear of experiencing more pain to not wanting to get the perpetrator in trouble.

Bshs 401 - Hope is not lost, there are many avenues available to help children and their families who have gone through or are getting away from abusive situations. There are counseling and therapy options, and there are steps taken by the legal system to ensure that individuals guilty of this terrible crime pay for the error of their ways.

Counseling and Therapy

Hrm322 - With any trauma to an adult or child the use of an outside professional can both be a wise decision and a necessity. Counseling is usually a short-term, highly focused approach taken to help the clients’ problem. Therapy such as psychotherapy is more of a long-term, in-depth approach to the client’s problems. Every case is individually assessed according to issues associated with it and the trauma involved with the problems or events at hand.

Hrm 322 - We read about child abuse at some point in our lives and wonder how someone can hurt a person so young and naïve. Those two reasons are why people can and do abuse children, it is easy.

        • “Children younger than 1 year had the highest rate of victimization at 20.6 per 1,000 children in the population of the same age. Victims with the single-year age of 1, 2, or 3 years old had victimization rates of 11.9, 11.4, and 11.0 victims per 1,000 children of those respective ages in the population.
